MONTAUK YACHT (YUCK) CLUB RESTAURANT REVIEW
We had occasion to eat at the Gulf Coast Kitchen of the Montauk Yacht Club, with three friends of ours. We are sorry to report that it was sub-par. The atmosphere was okay, but quite noisy and the service was a bit less than adequate. The food however, for each of us was awful. The bread offered was a few very small rectangles of garlic/cheese bread. The French Pinot Gris was okay, but nowhere near the Pinot Gris we have had from Washington State, e.g. Chateau San Michelle Pinot Gris. We all had the NY Chowder Soup, but it was heavily-laden with mostly potatoes. The chicken dish, which had been asked to be served with the sauce on the side, came drenched in the sauce. It was replaced with the sauce on the side. Good thing, as it can only be described as “turpentine” based! The garlic mashed potatoes and spinach served with it were fine. The osso bucco was also destroyed by the over-handed sauce. The pork chop was tough, and even a request for a steak knife didn’t “cut it.” Considering the fact that Long Islanders tend to be fussy about the quality of their food and that there are other fine restaurants in Montauk, we would recommend making the Montauk Yacht Club Restaurant “walk the plank.”
